Ahead of his junior season coming up at LSU, Leonard Fournette went the smart route of taking out some insurance policies

When the NFL Draft rolls around next season, a lot of the focus will be on the running back position, as there are expected to be a number of top talents at the position available. Of course, the man leading the pack here is junior LSU Tigers running back Leonard Fournette — who has went the wise route of protecting himself.

Of course, Fournette will be on the field this season for the Tigers as he’s not eligible for the draft just yet, and he will be protected by more than an offensive line. According to Dennis Dodd of CBS Sports, the LSU star has taken out two $10 million insurance policies. One of the policies covers him in the case of a career-ending injury while the other covers him should he see his draft stock fall due to an injury suffered on the field.

As is commonplace with these, the money to pay the premiums is being borrowed against future earnings.

We’ve seen players do this before and they most definitely should. There’s always the chance for a devastating injury on the field, and if it’s one that completely derails a career that could have brought in a lot of money down the road, the athlete wants to make sure they can make up for that.

In two years on the field in Baton Rouge, Fournette has rushed for 2,987 yards and 32 touchdowns on 487 carries.
