The Washington Capitals are considering the 2015-16 season a failure after failing to bring home a Stanley Cup.

The Washington Capitals had one of the most successful regular seasons that any team has ever had. They had the league’s leading goal scorer (Alex Ovechkin), a center who finished ninth in the league in points (Evgeny Kuznetsov), a center who finished seventh in the league in assists (Nicklas Backstrom), a Jack Adams finalist (head coach Barry Trotz), one of the best defensemen in the NHL (John Carlson), and a Vezina Trophy finalist (Braden Holtby).

However, the Caps still consider the season a complete failure because they didn’t achieve their goal of winning the Stanley Cup.

"“Again, it sucks when you lose in the first round, second round, third round… it doesn’t matter,” Ovechkin said, via ESPN. “Your goal is [to] win the Cup.”"

It sounds like the Capitals have had it with losing in the postseason. For whatever reason, the Caps can’t seem to get it done in the postseason no matter how good they are in the regular season.

Who should the Caps look to for advice on what to do this offseason? They should look no further than the St. Louis Blues and San Jose Sharks. Both teams were extremely tempted to blow up their cores last offseason. However, both teams remained patient and added complementary pieces to their lineup. The Caps need to do exactly that and maybe buy some extra rabbit foots for the playoffs.
