The Sharks came back strong in Game 2 after a pedestrian Game 1 to tie the series against the St. Louis Blues at one game a piece.

99. 4. 120. Final. 0

After looking quite pedestrian in Game 1, the San Jose Sharks came out aggressive against the St. Louis Blues and were rewarded with a 4-0 victory. Their Game 2 victory ties the series up at one game apiece as they go back to San Jose for Games 3 and 4. San Jose got goals from forward Tommy Wingels and defenseman Brent Burns. Dainius Zubrus added an empty net goal with under 20 seconds left.

Wingels scored his goal in the first period, assisted by Zubrus and Justin Braun. Burns scored his goal in the second period, assisted by captain Joe Pavelski and forward Logan Couture. The bearded defenseman added his second goal of the night in the third period on a power play.

The Blues looked poor tonight, but give San Jose goaltender Martin Jones credit for limiting the Blues’ chances, especially on the power play. Jones had 24 saves on the evening. Brian Elliott had a solid night in goal for the Blues, saving 23 of 26 shots. The Blues gave Elliott a worse fate than he deserved. They’ll have to step up their game in Game 3 if they want to win the series.

Three stars

Burns was the first star of the game, as he had two huge goals. He has been an absolute monster in the playoffs this season and could be the Conn Smythe winner should the Sharks win the Stanley Cup.

Jones got a strong shutout against a very good team in the Blues. He had 23 saves on the night and made some outstanding saves while San Jose was shorthanded.

Couture picked up two assists on the night and remains San Jose’s most productive forward. If Burns doesn’t win the Conn Smythe, it could be Couture.
