DraftKings Late MLB Picks For May 18

There are only 12 games in the night tournament with the Red Sox and Royals playing two in Kansas City. There are plenty of options. Who should you spend on? Let’s hit the stats!

More from DraftKings

NOTE: these picks are based solely on statistics. Some players have never faced their opponents, or have very little experience against them. I am not saying that none of those are good picks. The highest scorer of the day could be someone with no experience against his opponent. This is based on statistical analysis only. If you have a gut feeling, then by all means, follow that. This is not an exact science. The best lineups usually have a mix of proven stats and hot players.

Mike Bolsinger is making his season debut against the Angels, a team that he has never faced. There is too much risk there.

Best Bets:

Francisco Liriano ($10,400): Some might shy away because of his disastrous outing against the Cubs last Friday. This is not the Cubs. This is the Braves. The Braves are a mess, and Liriano has held them to a .197 average over 117 at bats with no homers, seven RBI, and 29 strikeouts. Liriano has the potential to outscore everyone today.

Gio Gonzalez ($9,300): Gonzalez has done pretty well against the Mets in his career. He has held them to a .220 average over 177 at bats with three homers, 17 RBI, and 41 strikeouts. Bartolo Colon continues to be solid, but I would venture that Gio has a really good shot at the win as well.

Honorable Mention:

Jake Odorizzi ($7,900): Odorizzi has held the Blue Jays to a terrible .157 average in 127 at bats, but he has given up six homers to the Blue Jays. Because of the lack of baserunners, he has been able to mostly limit the damage. The saving grace might be the 29 strikeouts. Chris Archer did a good job against the Rays last night. Can Odorizzi do the same?

Dark Horses:

Doug Fister ($6,000): Believe it or not, Fister has done pretty well against the White Sox in his career. The Sox are hitting .242 off of him in 66 at bats, but only have one homer and seven RBI to 14 strikeouts. Jimmy Rollins is the only guy to take him deep, but he is still not hitting well off of him. This is a big risk, but Fister has been decent this year, and Mat Latos has given up 13 runs in his last three starts. There is potential here.

Adam Wainwright ($5,800): Wainwright has done very well against the Rockies, and the game is in St. Louis, so those are a couple of things in Wainwright’s favor. His ERA hovers around 7 still, but he has held the Rockies to a .239 average in 88 at bats with just three RBI and 19 strikeouts. The track record is there. Do you want to take the risk?

You have heard our FanDuel experts Matt Rogers and Brian Tulloch talk about “stacking” pieces of a lineup against certain pitchers. Here are the stacks that could work well on DraftKings today, based on past statistics.

Yes, I am advocating a stack against Johnny Cueto, but you know me. I always have the stats to back it up. John Jay ($2,800), if he can play, is a good play. Jay is 13-33(.394) with two walks, two doubles, three homers, and seven RBI. Keep an eye on Jay’s status. Matt Kemp ($3,300) is 7-20(.350) with two walks, a double, and two solo homers off of Cueto. The most sneaky play could be Alexei Ramirez ($2,500). Ramirez is 9-14(.643) with two doubles and a solo homer against Cueto.

The Cubs have actually done pretty well against Jimmy Nelson. Jorge Soler ($3,400) is 5-16(.313) with a walk, three doubles, a home run, and three RBI against Nelson. Javier Baez ($3,100) is 3-6 with a pair of RBI. Both Anthony Rizzo and Dexter Fowler have homered off of Nelson, but they are not hitting for a good average.

The Nationals haven’t done a great deal of damage against Bartolo Colon, but there are enough players that have been on base a lot against him. Ben Revere ($3,400) is 8-21(.381) off of Colon, but has no counting stats. Jayson Werth ($3,500) is 4-9 with two walks and two doubles, but has not driven in a run. Bryce Harper ($5,000) is only 3,13(.231) but he does have a homer and two RBI. Perhaps the best has been Anthony Rendon ($3,800). Rendon is 4-13(.308) with a homer and two RBI as well.

David Price has had a rough year, and there are some Royals that could make it worse. Salvador Perez ($2,500) is 3-9 with a homer and two RBI against Price. Lorenzo Cain ($4,300) is 4-11(.364) with a solo homer against Price.

Evan Longoria ($3,600) is 12-46(.261) with five walks, five doubles, two homers, and eight RBI against R.A. Dickey. Steven Souza ($3,800) could also be worth using. He is 3-8 with a walk, a homer, and two RBI off Dickey.

Buster Posey ($3,800) is 5-8 with a walk, two homers, and three RBI against Drew Pomeranz. Hunter Pence ($3,900) is only 3-11 off of Pence, but all three of those hits are home runs and he has driven in six.

Josh Donaldson ($4,700) only has three hits in 14 at bats against Jake Odorizzi, but they are all home runs. Kevin Pillar ($3,600) is 4-13(.308) with two doubles and a solo homer against Odorizzi.

Juan Lagares ($2,800) is 10-26(.385) with a walk, three doubles, a triple, a homer, and four RBI against Gio Gonzalez. David Wright ($4,100) may be worth using. He is 6-21(.286) with six walks, a double, a triple, a homer, and four RBI off Gonzalez.

Matt Carpenter ($4,600) is 3-8 with two homers and four RBI against Rockies starter Chris Rusin. Will things be better down at land level?

Rickie Weeks ($2,000) could be a solid play if he is in the lineup. He is 2-7 off of Nate Eovaldi. Both hits are home runs, and he has driven in three.

Jacoby Ellsbury ($4,400) is perfect against Shelby Miller so far. He has three singles in three at bats and has driven in three runs.

Mookie Betts ($4,700) is already 2-6 with a solo home run off of Edinson Volquez. Is another on tap tonight?

Robinson Cano ($5,000) is 14-31(.452) with three walks, a double, two homers, and eight RBI against Chris Tillman. Nelson Cruz only has two hits in 11 at bats off of Tillman, but they are both solo home runs.

Andrew McCutchen ($4,200) is 5-12(.417) with a walk, a double, two homers, and four RBI against Julio Teheran.
