Joey Bosa is tired of all the J.J. Watt comparisons
Joey Bosa wants people to stop comparing him to J.J. Watt.
The success of Houston Texans defensive end J.J. Watt has helped the NFL realize how important and valuable a dominant defensive end can be.
One could argue Watt’s success helped Ohio State’s Joey Bosa get drafted by the San Diego Chargers with the third overall pick.
Bosa has drawn a lot of comparisons to Watt because of his dominant play, but he’s getting sick of being compared to Watt.
It’s likely that a certain NFL.com article is what caused Bosa to speak out. While Bosa is honored to be compared to such a dominant defensive player, at the same time Bosa probably wants to be his own guy and stop being compared to arguably the best defensive player in the NFL.
“[Watt] is obviously one of the best defenders in the league,” Bosa said, via ESPN.com. “That’s obviously my goal, to come in and have an impact like that. I’m going to do anything I can to help the team win.”
Bosa’s comments have to be a good sign for the Chargers. He’s coming into the league with a chip on his shoulder, wanting to prove that he’s his own person. Being compared to Watt is an incredible honor, but that’s setting the bar at an incredibly high level. Watt is a generational type of player. Bosa needs to worry about being the best player that he can be, not on being the next Watt.
