Re-draft 2003 NBA Draft
In that big trade between the Memphis Grizzlies and Boston Celtics in the 2003 NBA Draft, the No. 27 pick was originally traded to the Celtics. Assuming that wouldn’t go down in a re-draft, considering the knowledge of which picks to be made, the Grizzlies could draft a guy with the No. 27 pick that was originally taken with the No. 20 pick and traded to them.
Dahntay Jones was another one of those wing players from this draft that did a good job of building a career that has spanned over a decade in the NBA. Jones could mix it up a little bit on the court and occasionally hit from outside.
He quickly asserted himself into the Grizzlies’ rotation and was even able to get some minutes in the playoffs. His impact wasn’t overly big, but he had his moments for the team that ended up acquiring him.
Still, he’s a pick that was probably taken a little bit too early and was probably more suited for the end of the first round that year. That’s not a knock on Jones by any means, but rather a testament to the strength of the draft class that he ended up being selected in.
