5 reasons Tim Lincecum won’t see resurgence with Angels
1. Left His Heart In San Francisco
Tim Lincecum will regret leaving the city and team that loved him to death no matter what for the Angels. No matter how well he pitches for the Angels, the fans there won’t love him nearly as much as Giants fans did. His team won’t love him the way that the Giants did.
Lincecum is still a cult hero in San Francisco. The fact that so many Giants fans are upset about Lincecum pitching for another team shows how beloved he was in San Francisco, even though he was clearly not the pitcher that he used to be.
Having the support of your fans and teammates means a lot to pitchers. Lincecum could have a rough outing and know that his fans and teammates would still love him. Perhaps no fanbase is more passionate than San Francisco’s. If you do something good for the Giants and help them win, they’ll remember that even if you struggle in the future.
No moment expresses the love affair between the city of San Francisco and Tim Lincecum better than the reaction that Lincecum got after throwing his second no-hitter. His teammates and Giants fans might have been more excited for Lincecum than Lincecum himself.
That moment says it all. Tim Lincecum was and still is a hero in San Francisco. He won’t be one for the Angels if he doesn’t pitch extremely well. Can Lincecum still pitch extremely well? Only time will tell. But the answer is likely no.
