NFL uniform watch: Ranking of all 32 team’s uniforms
By Randy Gurzi
13. Baltimore Ravens
The possibilities became endless when the Cleveland Browns left Ohio prior to the 1996 season. The team owner at the time, Art Modell, was so ready to leave that he allowed all the history of the team to stay behind as they moved on.
The result was a much higher standing in the rankings of NFL team uniforms, and a couple of Super Bowls, which are okay too. The Baltimore Ravens were established in 1996 and the team has been a constant competitor ever since, winning their first Super Bowl in 2000.
That team featured one of the meanest defenses ever constructed, centered around linebacker Ray Lewis. They have since changed their identity, as their 2012 Super Bowl win centered around their young quarterback and his huge arm, Joe Flacco.
In-between those wins were seven more playoff appearances, with another in 2014. That is ten total playoff appearances in less than 20 NFL seasons. They may have altered how they win games, but they keep finding ways to do it.
One thing that hasn’t changed throughout the different approaches to their game is their look. The team came in with the purple and black colors being dominant features, and they remain so today. The gold highlights around the logo and numbers break up the two colors nicely and offer a great touch.
The crest on the sleeves is unique to the Maryland franchise and looks as cool on the sleeves as it does on their field. The only knock against the Ravens uniform comes when they wear the all black alternate jerseys. The shirts themselves are not the issues, but the pants look more like a cross between a ballet uniform and pajama bottoms. Those may need some changing.
