3. He’s inheriting a young, talented squad

Louis van Gaal may have ruined Angel di Maria, but there was no way he was going to stunt the growth of Anthony Martial and Marcus Rashford. Those two exploded onto the scene in a big way, and the latter is already being rewarded for his meteoric rise with a potential spot on England’s Euro roster.

Beyond those two, there is also Jesse Lingard, who scored the match-winner in the FA Cup Final, and Memphis Depay. A lot of signs point to the latter being on his way out, but if they were smart, they’d remember what he’s capable of, and give him another chance under Mourinho.

The young talent on Manchester United indicates that the club is undergoing a changing of the guard, and Mourinho’s arrival will only expedite that process. The club is still weighed down by older players who have gone past their prime, and replacing them with names on the transfer market will be Mourinho’s top priority. Imagine how much better Martial and Rashford will look if they get paired with a Morata, or even an Ibrahimovic.

As of right now, United’s core is halfway towards winning the Premier League. But once Mourinho’s through with them, he’ll help push them over the top.
