Manchester United has named José Mourinho its next manager, according to reports.

While Manchester United had a good Saturday — for once — it was still a massive day off the pitch. Despite winning the FA Cup, Louis Van Gaal was let go as manager and promptly replaced.

The man who replaced him is former Chelsea manager José Mourinho.

According to multiple reports, Man United has named Mourinho their new manager just hours after winning the FA Cup Final over Crystal Palace.

It seems like odd timing, but the writing was on the wall for Van Gaal, as it had been a rough couple of years in Manchester. After taking over for the legendary Sir Alex Ferguson, Van Gaal struggled to keep United at the prestigious level that was expected of the club.

A return to the Champions League is in order for United, but they haven’t been able to do anything in the massive European tournament while under Van Gaal’s management.

While being seen as an upgrade, the road has been no easier for Mourinho this year. He was canned by Chelsea after his club basically quit on him and forced the firing by way of a mildly subtle mutiny. This was seen when the club turned things around once Mourinho was let go, even if it didn’t end up amounting to much.

That bad blood could help make the United-Chelsea rivalry more spicy, but all United fans want right now is for things to get back on track. The man in charge of that is someone with something to prove in Mourinho.
