NBA Rumors: David Fizdale getting second interview with Memphis
By Jason Parker
Reports say that Miami Heat assistant coach David Fizdale will get a second interview with the Memphis Grizzlies, including a meeting with the team’s owner.
With the NBA conference finals in full effect, there are two teams watching the playoffs that are looking for a new head coach. While the Houston Rockets seem to have several different options in mind for who should be their new head man, the Memphis Grizzlies may have a better idea about who they want to take over.
According to one ESPN insider, current Miami Heat assistant coach David Fizdale looks to be taking his talents from South Beach back to Western Tennessee for another meeting:
For years, David Fizdale has been one of the top assistant coaches in the NBA as he was the trusted man for head coach Erik Spoelstra since 2008, including during the team’s run of four straight NBA Finals appearances (which included back to back titles in 2012 and 2013). Fizdale became a trusted coach for the team’s Big Three superstars of LeBron James, Dwyane Wade and Chris Bosh.
Fizdale went into the coaching profession not long after his college playing career ended at San Diego. He spent time at his alma mater and at Fresno State before moving onto the NBA and had stints with the Golden State Warriors and Atlanta Hawks.
Memphis is looking to replace David Joerger, who was fired after three seasons with the team that included a playoff appearance each season. Joerger was hired by the Sacramento Kings as their head coach not long after that.
