Rob Gronkowski continued his offseason of fun by challenging Shaq to a three point contest over Twitter.

New England Patriots tight end Rob Gronkowski is up to his usual antics this offseason. In his latest adventure, he challenged NBA on TNT analyst and newly minted Hall of Fame center Shaquille O’Neal to a three point contest over Twitter.

Gronkowski is smart to challenge Shaq to a three point contest. Shaq was an awful three point shooter in his career, only making one out of the 22 three pointers that he tried in the regular season. It’s hard to imagine that Shaq has gotten any better since he has retired. Gronkowski played basketball back in high school as a center, so he definitely knows his way around a basketball court.

It sure would be fun to watch Shaq and Gronkowski have a three point contest. But he should have just challenged Shaq to a free throw contest because Shaq’s free throw struggles throughout his career are well documented. The popular strategy of fouling bad free throw shooters started because Shaq was so unstoppable and so terrible from the free throw line. Gronkowski couldn’t be worse than Shaq at shooting free throws.

The Patriots tight end was recruited back in high school as a center, averaging 21 points and 18 rebounds per game as a senior back in 2006. He decided to play football instead of basketball. Just imagine how much fun the NBA would be if Gronkowski would have chosen basketball over football.
