Kevin Durant engulfs Stephen Curry layup attempt (Video)
Kevin Durant engulfed NBA MVP Stephen Curry on a huge block in the second quarter of Game 6
Stephen Curry, despite being one of the most dynamic and lethal players in the entire NBA, had been noticeably struggling in the Western Conference Finals against the Oklahoma City Thunder. Be it because of injuries that he’s yet to disclose or because of the Thunder’s defense, the Golden State Warriors point guard had been up against it leading up to Game 6. For most of the first half, it didn’t get any better. In fact, Kevin Durant may have made things worse.
Midway through the second quarter with the Warriors trailing, Curry tried to drive into the lane and make something happen and possibly start a run. As he did that, though, Kevin Durant rotated over to protect the rim. So as Steph rose up to the rim, KD quite literally just swallowed the MVP whole with his crazy long arms on a huge block that led to a Warriors turnover:
Perhaps all you can about a play like that between Kevin Durant and Stephen Curry is that must be one of the results when two immortals wind up going head-to-head at the rim in an NBA game.
Curry clearly hasn’t been himself in this series, but I’m not sure it would’ve mattered on this play if he was at 100 or even 110 percent. Durant’s length is just so dangerous defensively and there’s not much you can do when he starts engulfing your shot from above.
