DraftKings Early MLB Picks For May 29

Nine of the games make up the early slate on this Sunday, making this the bigger tournament of the day. There are quite a few stats to sort through, so let’s see who past history says will win us some money!

More from DraftKings

NOTE: these picks are based solely on statistics. Some players have never faced their opponents, or have very little experience against them. I am not saying that none of those are good picks. The highest scorer of the day could be someone with no experience against his opponent. This is based on statistical analysis only. If you have a gut feeling, then by all means, follow that. This is not an exact science. The best lineups usually have a mix of proven stats and hot players.

Vince Velasquez has never faced the Cubs, and he has had a really good year so far, but so have the Cubbies. He is still a risk. Rookie Mike Clevinger will start against Baltimore today, but he is a risk considering the way the Orioles have hit and Tillman has pitched this year.

Best Bets:

Nathan Eovaldi ($9,800): Eovaldi’s price has inflated, but he may still be worth it today. He has held the Rays to a .231 average in 39 at bats with only two runs scored and two extra base hits. He has also struck out ten of those 39. This looks like another solid game for Eovaldi.

Edinson Volquez ($7,700): When you compare the opposing hitter’s stats of Volquez and Sale, Volquez is a long way ahead of Sale. Seriously. The White Sox are only hitting .217 against Volquez in 138 at bats with only two homers and ten RBI while striking out 28. Sale will get more strikeouts, but Volquez could have a nice game as well opposing him.

Honorable Mention:

Chris Tillman ($8,900): Tillman has been very strong this year (6-1, 2.61 ERA), and is facing a rookie. He has also held Cleveland to a .242 average in 99 at bats with a homer and 11 RBI. These numbers are not great, but they are better than most of the top options today. He has also earned 20 punchouts in that span. Tillman seems a strong bet for another good performance and possibly a win.

Nick Tropeano ($8,200): Tropeano faced the Astros once last year, and gave up one run in five innings while striking out four. He is a solid bet to have a good outing against Houston again, and appear a safer option than most of the top options today who have poor histories against the teams they face today.

Francisco Liriano ($7,000): Liriano has held the Rangers to a .220 average in 123 at bats with only one homer and seven runs while striking out 32. Those are very good numbers. Martin Perez has a brief, but not good, history against Pittsburgh, so Liriano could be in line for a win as well.

Dark Horses:

Doug Fister ($5,600): Yes, he faces Tropeano, but Fister has been solid this year, and has a really good history against the Angels. The Halos are only hitting .206 against Fister in 97 at bats with one homer (by Albert Pujols, his only hit in eight at bats) and five RBI while racking up 21 strikeouts.

Michael Wacha ($5,300): How brave are you? Do you trust Wacha’s career stats against the Nationals, or do you trust what has made him this cheap? He has not gone more than four innings since May 8th, and has given up 20 runs in those three starts. However, the Nationals are only hitting .213 against Wacha in 61 at bats with two homers, three RBI, and 15 strikeouts.

You have heard our FanDuel experts Matt Rogers and Brian Tulloch talk about “stacking” pieces of a lineup against certain pitchers. Here are the stacks that could work well on DraftKings today, based on past statistics.

If you are a regular reader, you probably already have an opinion on my sanity. Well, I am advocating a Royals stack against Chris Sale. The Royals are hitting .298 against Sale in nearly 300 at bats! It is not a fluke! Lorenzo Cain ($3,400) is 15-43(.349) with three doubles, three homers, and seven RBI against Sale. Alcides Escobar ($2,800) is 20-52(.385) with two walks, two doubles, and a solo homer. Kendrys Morales ($2,200) is 3-9 with a double, a homer, and three RBI. Even lefty Eric Hosmer ($3,000) is 10-33(.303) with a double and a RBI against Sale.

Matt Adams ($2,600) would be a great play if he is in the lineup. He is 4-9 with two doubles, a homer, and two RBI against Stephen Strasburg. Jedd Gyorko ($2,400) is 4-11(.364) with a walk, two doubles, a homer, and two RBI against Strasburg. Matt Holliday ($2,600) is 6-12 with a pair of doubles and a RBI.

Jay Bruce ($3,900) is 7-17(.412) with a walk, three doubles, two homers, and six RBI already off of Jimmy Nelson. Billy Hamilton ($3,200) is 4-11 with two walks against Nelson. Brandon Phillips ($3,100) is 5-15 with two homers and three RBI. Joey Votto ($3,700) is 3-12 with two walks and three RBI against Nelson.

R.A. Dickey has served up nine home runs and a whopping 46 RBI to Red Sox hitters in his career. Stack some Boston players! David Ortiz ($5,400) is 10-36(.278) with five walks, three homers and nine RBI off of Dickey. Hanley Ramirez ($3,600) is only eligible at first base now, but he has clobbered Dickey. Hanley is 10-36(.278) with three doubles, a triple, a homer, and seven driven in off of him. Xander Bogaerts ($4,100) is 12-33(.364) with four doubles, a homer, and seven driven in as well. You can also consider Dustin Pedroia ($3,800) , who is 12-48(.250) with a cycle and five RBI against Dickey. Travis Shaw ($3,500) is 4-10 with two walks, two doubles, a homer, and four RBI off Dickey. Mookie Betts ($4,900) is 9-29 with a walk, a double, two triples, and a pair of RBI. Stay away from Jackie Bradley Jr. though. Bradley is just 3-23(.130) against Dickey, but he does have a home run.

Brian McCann ($3,300) got the day off yesterday so he should be in today against Jake Odorizzi. That is great news for us. McCann is 12-20(.600) with two walks, three doubles, a triple, three homers, and ten RBI off of Odorizzi already. Mark Teixeira ($3,100) is 3-10 with a double, a triple, a homer, and three RBI off Odorizzi. Alex Rodriguez ($3,400) is only 2-9 off of Odorizzi, but both of the hits are home runs.

In two games against Brandon Finnegan, Ryan Braun, Chris Carter, Jonathan Lucroy, and Aaron Hill all took him deep. If you are chasing home runs, which you should be, these are good options to consider.
