What is the College World Series format?

Here is a look at the format for the 2016 College World Series, which will take place June 18th-29th in Omaha, Nebraska.

In just under three weeks, eight college baseball teams will see their dreams come true as they will advance to play at TD Ameritrade Park In Omaha, Nebraska for the 2016 College World Series.

Over the years, the format for the event has varied, while the current one that will be used in 2016 has been in place since the 2003 tournament. Each of the eight super regional winners will qualify for the CWS and advance to the final tournament of the season.

Once in Omaha, the teams will be put into two separate brackets consisting of four teams each. From there, each bracket will be a double elimination tournament, with the last two teams standing to play a best of three championship round, with those games scheduled for June 27th-29th.

This year could also be the tiebreaker between the Virginia Cavaliers and Vanderbilt Commodores. Each of the last two seasons, the teams have met in the final championship round with Vanderbilt winning it in 2014 and Virginia taking the title in 2015.

The 2016 College World Series takes place from June 18th through the 29th in Omaha, Nebraska on the networks of ESPN.
