DraftKings Early MLB Picks For May 31

There are only three interleague afternoon games on this Tueday, which makes this the smaller tournament of the day. There are a few good options. Let’s find out what the past stats say!

More from DraftKings

NOTE: these picks are based solely on statistics. Some players have never faced their opponents, or have very little experience against them. I am not saying that none of those are good picks. The highest scorer of the day could be someone with no experience against his opponent. This is based on statistical analysis only. If you have a gut feeling, then by all means, follow that. This is not an exact science. The best lineups usually have a mix of proven stats and hot players.

Best Bets:

Hisashi Iwakuma ($9,200): The Mariners face the Padres every year, so Iwakuma is no stranger to them, though the Padres wish he was. San Diego is just 4-49(.082) against Iwakuma with a solo homer (by Melvin Upton Jr., his only hit in six at bats) and a staggering 21 strikeouts. If you feel like gambling with Upton, go ahead, but I can’t recommend any Padres hitters with a track record like this.

Corey Kluber ($10,400): Kluber has only allowed a .231 average to the Rangers in 39 at bats with just one solo homer (by Prince Fielder, one of his two hits in 15 at bats) and 12 strikeouts. The numbers aren’t quite as dominating as Iwakuma, but Kluber is still a safe bet for a good outing here.

Honorable Mention:

Lance McCullers ($7,700): McCullers has faced the Diamondbacks once, and was solid in five innings, giving up a solo homer to A.J. Pollock and striking out four. For what it’s worth, Paul Goldschmidt was 1-2 with a single and a walk.

Dark Horse:

Patrick Corbin ($8,100): Corbin has only faced three current Astros hitters (Jose Altuve, Evan Gattis, and Carlos Gomez), but they are a combined 1-14(.071) with two walks and five strikeouts. The hit was a double by Altuve, and Gomez, who is currently on the DL, is 0-9. Take that for what it’s worth.

You have heard our FanDuel experts Matt Rogers and Brian Tulloch talk about “stacking” pieces of a lineup against certain pitchers. Here are the stacks that could work well on DraftKings today, based on past statistics.

Colby Lewis is happy that he wont have to face Michael Brantley, who is 7-16 off of him, but plenty of other Cleveland players have hit him well. Lonnie Chisenhall ($2,900) is 3-7 with a double and four RBI. Rajai Davis ($4,000) is 8-22(.364) with a double and two RBI. Jason Kipnis ($4,500) is 4-12 with two doubles. Carlos Santana ($4,600) is 5-12(.417) with two walks, a double, a homer, and four RBI. I will add the caveat that Colby Lewis is 4-0 with a 3.38 ERA this year and that most stacks against him haven’t worked as well this year.

Robinson Cano ($4,700) is 37-90(.411) with five walks, nine doubles, two triples, five homers, and 16 RBI against James Shields from their days in the AL East. Franklin Gutierrez ($2,800) is 9-28(.321) with a walk, a double, a homer, and three RBI against Shields. Adam Lind ($3,300) is 15-54(.278) with two walks, three doubles, five homers, and eight RBI. Kyle Seager ($3,400) is 5-15 with three walks, two homers, and four RBI off Shields.
