Instead of re-signing with the New York Jets, QB Ryan Fitzpatrick is reportedly interested in taking less money to play for another NFL team.

This situation is starting to get ugly. Ryan Fitzpatrick had a career year for the New York Jets last season, and always seemed to be a lock to come back for 2016. However, the two sides cannot agree on a price, and Fitzpatrick is now reportedly considering signing with another NFL team for less money on the principle.

Manish Mehta of the New York Daily News reports, “Jets sources, including players, now believe that Fitzpatrick is amenable to spurning them on principle and taking less money to play elsewhere. They no longer think that Fitzpatrick’s return is a fait accompli.”

Where Fitzpatrick could end up besides with the Jets is nothing more than a guess at this point, but it is certainly interesting to consider the possibilities.

The defending Super Bowl champion Denver Broncos stand out as the most logical landing spot, as Fitzpatrick would be a better option for the team than Mark Sanchez, and as they wait for Paxton Lynch to get ready.

More from New York Jets

If Fitzpatrick is interested in a back-up role, almost every NFL team will have some interest. If he really wants to stick it to the Jets, then Fitzpatrick should sign with the New England Patriots and fill in for Tom Brady for four games. Now that would be an interesting story.

After his impressive performance last season, the three-year, $24 million offer from the Jets is obviously not a strong offer. That being said, Fitzpatrick has been a journeyman quarterback throughout his career, I also understand the Jets not wanting to pour a bunch of money in to him.

He is an incredibly tough player to judge a value on, and that is why he remains un-signed as we approach June. However, if Fitzpatrick is really willing to take less money elsewhere, I am sure there will be teams interested in his services.
