The Colorado Buffaloes are easily the worst football program in the Pac-12 since joining the conference along with rival Utah in 2012. Colorado was once a powerhouse in the Big Eight/12 under head coach Bill McCartney (1982-94), but have now become one of the worst Division I programs in the country.

Since joining the Pac-12, the Buffaloes have finished in last place in the Pac-12 South Division all four seasons. To be fair, that division has both Los Angeles schools, both Arizona schools, and a strong Utah Utes program, but it’s time for the Buffaloes to get to a bowl in 2016.

However, that doesn’t seem all that promising for Colorado and fourth-year head coach Mike MacIntyre. In three years in Boulder, MacIntyre has gone 10-27 overall, 2-25 in Pac-12 play, and hasn’t done better than 4-8 (1-8) in any given season.

With in-state rival Colorado State having the upper hand in national notoriety these last few years and the overall great play of the 11 other teams in the Pac-12, one has to wonder if Colorado was better off leaving the Big 12 four years ago?

MacIntyre’s outrageously successful 2012 season with the San José Spartans seems like a very long time ago. He needs to have the Buffaloes fighting for bowl eligibility in 2016 to keep his job in 2017. While 5-7 would be progress in the right direction, can Colorado tolerate a third 4-8 season form MacIntyre in four seasons?
