19. player. 73.
This is the Nuggets’ third first round selection, but it’s hard to imagine them using all three of their picks on draft day given the challenges of integrating three additional players into their roster. One option for Denver is to find an international player they can “draft-and-stash” overseas for a few seasons before bringing over to the NBA. Juan Hernangomez is a perfect candidate. The 20-year-old currently plays for Estudiantes in Spain and is one of the most productive young players in the ACB. In a similar move to his brother, Hernangomez could sign with a bigger club for next season before coming over to the United States.

Hernangomez projects best as a stretch power forward in the NBA. He will need to add some muscle to his slight frame in order to do battle with some of the league’s tougher competition, but he has the offensive tools to create strong mismatches on that end of the floor. This season, he has made 35.8 percent of his three-point attempts and he is also able to attack closeouts off the dribble. He should excel as a cutter and slasher as well.

Although he plays with excellent energy, Hernangomez has yet to fulfill his defensive potential because he lacks the necessary fundamentals. However, with some experience, he could develop into a versatile defender capable of guarding multiple positions in the NBA.

To read more about Juan Hernangomez, <a href=. PF. Spain.
