DraftKings Early MLB Picks For June 4

There are nine games this afternoon, which makes this the larger tournament of the day. There are a lot of stats to go through, and a few good options. Let’s find out what the past stats say!

More from DraftKings

NOTE: these picks are based solely on statistics. Some players have never faced their opponents, or have very little experience against them. I am not saying that none of those are good picks. The highest scorer of the day could be someone with no experience against his opponent. This is based on statistical analysis only. If you have a gut feeling, then by all means, follow that. This is not an exact science. The best lineups usually have a mix of proven stats and hot players.

Junior Guerra has never faced the Phillies, but the 31 year old rookie has posted a respectable 3-1 record with a 3.47 ERA. He could be a solid roll of the dice. Nick Tropeano has never faced the Pirates, and while his 3.25 ERA looks good, the 1.55 WHIP suggests that maybe he isn’t such a great idea. Edwin Escobar has never faced the Cubs. You probably don’t want to start the rookie against one of the best teams in the league.

Best Bets:

Steven Wright ($11,000): Wright lost to Toronto in back to back starts in April, but he gave up just three runs combined in those two starts and struck out 11. He gave up a solo homer to Jose Bautista, but that was all he allowed him in seven at bats. His knuckleball is working pretty well right now as he has given up two runs or less in all but two starts this year. He seems like one of the safer plays of the afternoon.

Jason Hammel ($8,700): Hammel is 6-1 with a 2.09 ERA, and his history against Arizona is nearly as good The Diamondbacks are only hitting .224 off of Hammel in 85 at bats with two homers and only six runs while striking out 18 times. Don’t be surprised if Hammel is the highest scorer of the day, but you may want to see if the wind is blowing out at Wrigley first.

Honorable Mention:

Collin McHugh ($8,200): The A’s are hitting only .214 against McHugh in 98 career at bats with only two homers and nine RBI while striking out 26 times. One of those homers was by Josh Reddick, who is on the DL. The Astros offense is heating up, and McHugh is pitching better lately. Enough so that I would feel comfortable using him here.

Dark Horse:

Jeff Locke ($6,400): Locke three-hit the Marlins on Monday, and now he gets a team that has not hit him well at all. The current Angels are just 1-26(.038) against Locke, however, that does not include Mike Trout, Albert Pujols, or Kole Calhoun. Therein lies the risk.

You have heard our FanDuel experts Matt Rogers and Brian Tulloch talk about “stacking” pieces of a lineup against certain pitchers. Here are the stacks that could work well on DraftKings today, based on past statistics.

The only reason I suggest stacking Tigers against Chris Sale is because of the homers. The Tigers have hit ten off of him. Miguel Cabrera ($4,000) is only 8-33(.242) against Sale, but he has nine walks, two homers, and four RBI. Same with Ian Kinsler ($3,900). He is only 6-27(.222), but he has five walks, two homers, and four RBI. J.D. Martinez ($3,200) is 6-22(.273) with three walks, two doubles, and a solo homer. Victor Martinez ($3,500) is 16-34(.471) with two walks, three doubles, four homers, and nine RBI against Sale. He is one of the few that has hit Sale hard.

How about a Brewers stack against Jeremy Hellickson? I know he is pitching better lately, but Chris Carter ($3,200) is 3-5with a walk, two doubles, a homer and three RBI against Hellickson. Aaron Hill ($3,300) is 3-6 with a walk, a double, and two RBI. Kirk Nieuwenhuis ($3,000) is 2-3 with two homers and three RBI off of Hellickson.

A Marlins stack against Bartolo Colon could be a good idea. Justin Bour ($3,500) is 3-12 with a homer and two RBI. Martin Prado ($3,200) is 7-20(.350) with a solo homer against Colon. J.T. Realmuto ($3,000) is 4-15(.267) with two doubles and a solo homer. Christian Yelich ($4,300) is 7-25(.280) with three doubles and three RBI off Colon. Giancarlo Stanton ($4,100) could be a bargain. He is 5-11(.455) with a walk, a double, two homers, and five RBI off of Colon. How about Ichiro Suzuki ($2,600)? The ageless wonder is 29-106(.274) with a walk, two doubles, a triple, three homers, and nine RBI off of the other ageless wonder.

Travis Shaw ($4,000) is 3-7 with two walks, a double, a homer, and two RBI against Marcus Stroman. Dustin Pedroia ($5,000) is 6-13(.462) with three doubles and three RBI against Stroman. Xander Bogaerts ($5,400) is 6-14(.429) with a double and a solo homer off of Stroman.

It’s looking like a good day to stack White Sox too. Jose Abreu ($3,700) is 3-8 with a double against Mike Pelfrey. Avisail Garcia, Alex Avila, Melky Cabrera, Austin Jackson, and Dioner Navarro all have a better than .300 batting average off of him. However, Jimmy Rollins ($3,600) is the only one to leave the yard off of him. Rollins is 14-47(.298) with a walk, a triple, a homer, and five RBI off of Pelfrey.

Joey Votto ($3,500) is only 2-7 against Stephen Strasburg, but he is also the only current Red to hit a home run off of him (a solo shot).

Marcus Semien ($3,000) is 5-9 with a walk, two doubles, and two RBI against Collin McHugh. Billy Butler ($3,100) is 3-10 with a walk and a solo homer against McHugh.

Jose Altuve ($4,700) is 2-6 with a homer and three RBI against Kendall Graveman, the probable starter for Oakland now that they are going to skip Rich Hill for now.

Brian Dozier ($4,100) is 1-2 with a two run homer against Matt Andriese.

Paul Goldschmidt ($4,300) is 4-11(.364) with a walk, a double, a homer, and four RBI against Jason Hammel in his career.

Evan Longoria ($4,100) is 7-17(.412) with a walk, two homers, and three RBI against Ervin Santana.
