4. New York Rangers

Tyson Barrie would be a flawless fit on Broadway for the New York Rangers. However, do they have what it takes to land him? Their prospect system is a bit barren after pushing in most of their chips to make a Stanley Cup run, trading for Keith Yandle in 2015 and Eric Staal in 2016. They also don’t have a 2016 first round pick, which could hinder their chances of trading for him.

However, it never hurts to try. In order for Tyson Barrie to make any sense for the Rangers, New York would need to persuade Colorado to take on either Dan Girardi or Marc Staal. Girardi can be ruled out because he is aging and he is a shadow of his former self. Staal isn’t much better, but at least he has age on his side. The Avalanche are a team that favors size and grit for their defensemen, but would they really want Staal?

Tyson Barrie would make a huge, immediate impact on the Rangers. He would theoretically replace Keith Yandle, but hopefully Barrie would get more ice time than him. A first pairing of Ryan McDonagh and Barrie or a second pairing of Kevin Klein and Barrie would be a huge upgrade to what they currently have.
