Novak Djokovic defeats Andy Murray in the French Open Final to complete a career slam.

Novak Djokovic has defeated Andy Murray in the French Open Final to the score of 3-6, 6-1, 6-2, 6-4. It is the first ever French Open title for Djokovic, and he now stands at 12 Grand Slam titles in an increasingly illustrious career. Not only that, he now has the “Career Slam,” putting him in rare company with Roger Federer, Rafael Nadal and a few others. Having won the Australian Open earlier this year, Djokovic has the chance of winning all four majors in one year should he be victorious in the upcoming Wimbledon and U.S. Open tournaments.

Andy Murray, winner of two Grand Slams himself, was superb in the first set, as Djokovic looked rattled with the gravity of the moment. Djokovic had been the favorite at this tournament last year, but struggled against Stan Wawrinka.

Thankfully for him, he settled down throughout the match, looking every bit the No. 1 player in the world that he is. Djokovic ran him all over the court in the final three sets and, despite a late rally from Murray deep into the fourth set, Djokovic was able to come away with the Grand Slam that had eluded him for the previous three or four years.

Now Djokovic will turn his sights to even greater history. With both Rafael Nadal and Roger Federer ailing more and more, as well as no true young stalwarts stepping up to take their places, there’s no reason to believe that Djokovic can’t catch Federer in total Grand Slam championships.
