The Alabama Crimson Tide running back enters his sophomore season as potential Heisman Trophy contender.

It’s never too early to start discussing college football, including who might be in the competition for the Heisman Trophy by the end of the season.

With under three months remaining until a loaded opening weekend, the 2016 Heisman race is shaping up to be a good one, as teams across the nation are returning top underclassmen. Clemson quarterback Deshuan Watson is the preseason favorite to be honored as college football’s top player, with Stanford’s Christian McCaffrey and LSU’s Leonard Fournette right behind him.

Also appearing on the shortlist of Heisman contenders is Alabama sophomore running back Bo Scarbrough. Scarbrough served as a backup to 2015 Heisman Trophy winner Derrick Henry as a freshman, and will now try to match the feat of his predecessor this year.

While Scarbrough is unproven after receiving just 18 carries for 104 yards and a touchdown in 2015, he has the upside to be just as good as Henry. A five-star recruit believed to share many of Henry’s characteristics, Scarbrough got plenty of hype in high school, which has only increased this offseason as he gets ready to take over as a starter.

For a few different reasons, Scarbrough should be considered a major contender in the race for the 2016 Heisman Trophy.
