In a recent interview, Marshawn Lynch stated that he will not be returning to the NFL.
Despite retiring at the end of the 2015 NFL season, there have been a ton of rumors that RB Marshawn Lynch would return to the field. But Lynch has put those rumors to rest in an interview that will air Tuesday.
“I’m retired,” Lynch stated in a joint interview with Sports Illustrated and 60 Minutes Sports. “Is that good enough? Which camera do you want me to look in to? This one? I’m done. I’m not playing football anymore.”
Lynch was a major part of the Seattle Seahawks’ success in recent years, using his powerful running style to lead their offense. He struggled with injuries last season, and decided to call it a career at the end.
Lynch is one of the best running backs of this era, but he was successful on the field for a relatively short period of time. While we will always remember his highlight reel runs and the fans in Seattle will always love him, Lynch is not going to be a serious Hall of Fame candidate.
It will be interesting to see how Lynch’s career stacks up against other great running backs, but based on everything we know about him, I doubt that Lynch really cares.

While the player himself seemed pretty adamant, Lynch’s agent Doug Hendrickson refused to let the door shut on his return to the NFL. “With Marshawn, I’ll never say never,” Hendrickson said.
Lynch is an interesting and unpredictable person, and Hendrickson is right, we can never be too sure about what he says. However, he never liked the spotlight and put his body through a lot on the field. Retirement will likely suit Marshawn Lynch well.
I do not expect him to ever suit up for an NFL team again.
Lynch’s full interview will air on Showtime’s 60 Minutes Sports on Tuesday.
