The Iowa State Cyclones unveiled some new helmets with a new color scheme for the 2016 season under first year head coach Matt Campbell.
In the last decade of football, fans of the Iowa State Cyclones haven’t had much to celebrate. Just once in the last 10 seasons have the men from Ames had a winning season while having a program history that includes just two conference championships for a program that has been playing since 1892.
That being said, there is a new era going on in the Big 12’s northernmost school. Head coach Matt Campbell came over from Toledo (after beating Iowa State 30-23 in two overtimes last season) and has the players and fans thinking that things will be better than last year’s 3-9 season.
Even if they don’t play better on the field, the Cyclones will at least have some new gear to make them look better. The school unveiled the new white helmets that the team will be wearing at several points during the 2016 season, and they look pretty good:

In the era where colleges are being bombarded with weird and outrageous alternate uniforms by their apparel providers, it’s nice that Iowa State kept it classy but stayed modern by just moving their core colors around and giving a fresh option.
Will it help with a schedule that includes Big 12 powers Oklahoma, Baylor, TCU, Texas and their in-state game against Iowa? Probably not … but no harm in trying, right?
