With a top 10 pick, who can help the New Orleans Pelicans get back to the playoffs?
The New Orleans Pelicans find themselves in a critical period of their franchise. They drafted and signed a super star, Anthony Davis, and he is now apart of the Pelicans for the foreseeable future. With such a rare player about to enter his prime, the Pelicans absolutely have to build a strong team around him to become legitimate contenders.
They tried to piece it together with average veterans in the past, and while they made the playoffs in 2014, 2015 showed that most of Davis’ role players are not fit to contend in today’s NBA. They enter this draft with the idea that they probably will not pick in the top ten again with Davis healthy, and they know that if they miss on this pick it will be a long and tough road to being a contender. The roster as a whole is not enticing, and aside from the appeal of Davis there is no way to get any super star type players to New Orleans to make this team compete. They will have to use this pick to find a robin for the 7-foot batman and with two young emerging stars, all of a sudden New Orleans sounds like the top free agent destination.
Picking sixth they will have plenty of options here. As far as looking into who they will draft, it seems as though Ben Simmons, Brandon Ingram, and Dragan Bender are the only three locks to be off the board by the time the Pelicans pick. With such a strong pool of players left, who should the Pelicans hope falls out of the top five and into a team on the rise?
Here are 5 players the Pelicans should target in this years NBA draft.
Next: 5. Jamal Murray
