5. New York Rangers

Yandle is coming off a two year tenure with the New York Rangers. While he wasn’t utilized in the most efficient manner, he still managed 58 points in 103 games with the Rangers. The Rangers likely won’t be able to keep Yandle because of cap concerns, but they would be very wise to do whatever it takes to re-sign Keith Yandle.

What would it take to keep Yandle? The Rangers would have to admit that they made a huge mistake by signing Dan Girardi and Marc Staal. Both players are trending downwards, especially Girardi. Girardi’s lower body injury had an effect on his awful season in 2015-16, but he was trending downwards even before last season. Staal is only 29 years old, but he’s not looking good. The Rangers must get rid of one of those two contracts in order to have a shot at keeping Yandle.

They also might have to trade Rick Nash depending on how much money they would inevitably have to eat in order to get rid of Staal and/or Girardi. Keith Yandle would be a great fit with the New York Rangers and re-signing him could cram their Stanley Cup window open for at least another season or two.
