Friday was Ali’s memorial service in his hometown of Louisville, Kentucky. Over the last week since the news of his passing, millions have paid their respects to arguably the most influential athlete of all-time both in the ring and outside of it because of his vast social impact.

Several important people traveled to Louisville for the memorial service to speak about the life of Ali. One of the most interesting people that had the privilege to eulogize Ali was former President of the United States Bill Clinton.

Clinton spoke profoundly about the impact Ali left on the world in the second half of his life, one that had him suffer through this dreaded neurological disease. During Clinton’s time at the White House, Ali helped lower the stigma associated with Parkinson’s Disease.

Ali was the athlete responsible for lighting the Centennial Olympic Flame during the 1996 Summer Olympic Games in Atlanta when Clinton was President of the United States. Clinton saw the greatness of Ali as one of his peers from his days as an awe-inspiring heavy weight to a man fighting for others that couldn’t fight for themselves.
