PF/C. Gonzaga. Kelly Olynyk. 13. player. 79.
Original pick: Kelly Olynyk (traded to Boston)

Somebody had to match up with their actual draft slot (okay, not really) and Olynyk is that player.

Obviously, Olynyk did not end up in Dallas, after a draft day trade sent him to Boston, but in my mind, the former Gonzaga big man “earned” the right draft slot. Olynyk certainly isn’t an impact player in the traditional sense, but he is fundamentally sound and his shooting could really play on the right team.

In his third season, Olynyk converted 40.5 percent of his three-point attempts, and he did so on good volume, with more than 200 attempts. That type of volume won’t come in just any offensive system for a player perhaps best cast as a center, but Olynyk is a better defender than you might think and his offensive versatility is quite valuable.

Of course, Olynyk is (still) best known for injuring Kevin Love in the 2015 NBA Playoffs, and he has never been a full-fledged starter with the Celtics. It is not a great time to be lacking as a rim protector as a big man, but Olynyk’s shooting is special enough where it might not matter. He is, at the very worst, a nice rotation big man to have in any team’s arsenal, and that is worthy of this draft slot.
