FanDuel daily picks: Fantasy baseball lineup-June 14
High Value SP
Taijuan Walker-Seattle Mariners (8,300): Walker and the Mariners are taking on the Rays at the Trop tonight as they start their series after an off-day on Monday. Walker will look to build on his best start of the season after he held the Indians scoreless for eight innings while allowing just three hits and no walks and striking out a season-high-matching 11. Walker had been struggling badly before that outing allowing 11 runs in just 9.1 innings in his last two starts, but he definitely has the upside to produce monster numbers like he did his last time out (69 fantasy points). He’s a boom or bust play in Tampa tonight, but he does have a favorable matchup since the Rays are in the bottom third of the league in runs scored, team average, and strikeouts. ∗∗
Martin Perez-Texas Rangers (7,700): The A’s went off last night for 14 runs against the Rangers, but Perez will try to reverse that trend tonight as he takes the hill in Oakland. Perez comes into tonight’s start with a solid 3.22 ERA and wins in each of his last four starts. He has improved to 5-4 on the year and has an official “quality start” in seven of his last nine games. He doesn’t usually get a ton of strikeouts and did lose to Oakland a month ago when he faced them allowing four runs on eight hits in seven innings. He has won every start since then, though, and with the Rangers lineup finding their groove I think he has a good shot to pick up a win tonight if he can turn in another quality outing. He doesn’t have a super high ceiling due to his lack of strikeouts, but he has a solid shot at being a nice mid-range play tonight if he can get the “W.” ∗∗∗
Brandon Finnegan-Cincinnati Reds (6,100): If you’re looking to load up on bats and go cheap on pitching, Finnegan is an interesting way to save money and still get a good matchup. Finnegan and the Reds are supposed to face the Braves tonight (weather permitting) which would be a nice matchup for the southpaw coming off a pair of solid starts. In fact, in three of his last four outings, he has allowed two runs or fewer and has managed to go at least 6.1 innings in each of his last four. He lowered his ERA to 3.77 with a strong outing against the Cardinals in which he also struck out seven batters. Finnegan is a gamble, but he’s been pitching well enough to be worth a look against one of the worst offenses in baseball.∗∗
