The U.S. Open has provided countless memorable moments throughout its storied history. Which ones stand out as the best?

The best golfers in the world will descend on Oakmont Country Club in Pennsylvania on Thursday for the 2016 U.S. Open, one of the main highlights of the year in all of sports.

While the U.S. Open is always special, this year’s tournament is shaping up to be particularly exciting. In addition to being known for its pristine conditions, Oakmont is one of the toughest courses in the world and will provide even top players with a major challenge.

Golf fans should be thrilled to see the tournament at Oakmont after last year’s event at Chambers Bay was plagued by poor green conditions. In the last U.S. Open to be held at Oakmont in 2007, Angel Cabrera held off Woods and Jim Furyk in a thrilling final hole, and the 2016 tournament figures to provide more of the same level of excitement.

Several of the most memorable tournaments in golf history from legends like Tiger Woods, Ben Hogan and Jack Nicklaus have occurred at America’s national championship. Even in the past few years, moments like Rory McIlory’s domination in 2011 and 14-year-old Andy Zhang’s debut in 2012 have earned their place in golf lore.

Condensing the history of the U.S. Open down to a few moments is a difficult task, but these five stand out as the best ever at the tournament.
