Corey Robinson leaves Notre Dame football due to concussions

Corey Robinson, the son of NBA legend David Robinson, has quit the Notre Dame football team after suffering his third concussion last season.
With less than three months to go before they open the 2016 season on the road against the Texas Longhorns, the Notre Dame Fighting Irish are now without one of their senior leaders at the wide receiver position following one of the hardest decisions any athlete has to make.
Corey Robinson, the son of NBA legend David, announced that he is giving up playing football all together after suffering his third concussion last season.
In a statement released on Twitter, Robinson expressed just how agonizing the decision was, but that it was the right one:
As mentioned in the tweet, Robinson will spend his last season in school as a member of the coaching staff as a student assistant. Corey Robinson will also be busy off the field during the next year, as he was elected student body president for the school.
While Robinson’s career numbers weren’t exactly going to get him into the Hall of Fame (65 catches for 896 yards and seven touchdowns in three seasons), he was going to be one of the few senior leaders at the offensive skill positions. Already, the Fighting Irish had lost their three leading receivers from last year.
Robinson’s departure means the leading receiver on the squad is the son of another athlete from a different sport. Torii Hunter Jr., who caught 28 passes for 363 yards and two scores, becomes the top target for head coach Brian Kelly’s offense heading into fall practice.
