Jets’ Eric Decker reveals Ryan Fitzpatrick situation is becoming a distraction.

New York Jets wide receiver Eric Decker has fully supported his quarterback, Ryan Fitzpatrick, for the entirety of his very public and rather ugly ongoing contract dispute. However, a month away from training camp, the standoff between the two sides has seemingly worn on the team according to Decker.

"“It’s been a long process. I’ve talked about it too many times. He’s still not here,” Decker told USA Today. “Honestly, it takes away from the focus on everyone else in this locker room. What our goals are, what we’re trying to accomplish this season.”"

Unfortunately for Decker and the rest of his Jets’ teammates, they will most likely be in for a long and draining offseason, as negotiations have not progressed in the slightest.

After throwing 31 touchdowns and leading the Jets to a 10-6 record in 2015, Fitzpatrick is looking to cash in on his comeback season and is reportedly asking for at least $16 million per year. Now 33-years-old, the Jets are simply unwilling to overpay for an aging QB, offering just a three-year, $24 million deal.

With both sides firmly rooted and unwilling to compromise, Fitzpatrick has threatened to retire, while the Jets seem content on starting either Geno Smith or one of the various young quarterbacks currently on their roster.

Only time will reveal the full extent this standoff will have on the team, but with Geno Smith currently tabbed as the starter, the Jets are not in a better position to succeed than they were last year.
