Brian Kelly mentioned that Notre Dame will be rotating the No. 1 jersey on a weekly basis this coming season

When it comes to Notre Dame Fighting Irish football, one of the first things that pop into people’s heads is “tradition.” Notre Dame is maybe the college football program in the country that carries the most tradition along with it, and this season head coach Brian Kelly is starting a new one that some may like while others may not.

During an appearance on WSBT 96.1 FM Tuesday, Kelly dropped the news that when this season gets rolling, the No. 1 jersey will be rotated between the players on a week-to-week basis. Of course, as you’d imagine, there are some catches that go along with this.

“No. 1 we’re going to hand out from week to week,” Kelly said. “And that’s going to be the player that exemplifies himself both on and off the field in a manner that represents all the things we want a Notre Dame football player to represent.”

Now again, some people might be happy about this while some might not be all that thrilled. Of course, something like this is great for team morale and rewarding players for doing what they’re supposed to do on and off the field for the Irish program, but at the same time, the constant switching of the number can get frustrating for media members and some fans as well.

But, like it or not, this is a tradition that Coach Kelly will be adding to the long list for Notre Dame football beginning this season.
