Marquise Goodwin sits out of Bills’ minicamp ahead of Olympic Trials with Rex Ryan’s approval.

Buffalo Bills wide receiver, Marquise Goodwin, is hoping to represent United States during this summer’s 2016 Rio Games in the long jump competition. Goodwin participated in both track and football while attending the University of Texas and previously represented the U.S. in the 2012 London Olympics.

Since being drafted in 2013 (third round, 78th overall), the Bills receiver has continued as two-sport athlete, recently winning silver in last summer’s Pan Am Games and he currently holds the world’s best long jump during this calendar year.

To make to 2016 team, Goodwin will need to perform well during the U.S. Olympic trials, which will be held in Oregon from July 1-10. Wanting to avoid any risk of injury, Goodwin is attending, but not participating in Bills’ mandatory minicamp with the full support of head coach and proud American, Rex Ryan.

"I think it’s fantastic. I mean it’s just a special thing obviously for him but a once-in-a-lifetime deal. He’s representing himself but even more so he’s representing our country and our community. I’m proud of the fact that he plays for the Buffalo Bills so when he’s out there doing long-jump, that’s our guy."

Goodwin was appreciative of his coach’s support adding, “I am an athlete at the end of the day and my job is to be fast and stay healthy and make plays when given the chance. It is not like I am at home sitting on the couching eating potato chips.”

While Goodwin has been a disappointment for Bills fans, totaling just 20 receptions in three seasons, he now has a tremendous opportunity to make his entire country proud as Olympic athlete.
