After a fast start, the Chicago White Sox have really struggled recently and could soon slip out of the race in the American League Central. According to MLB Insider Jon Heyman, manager Robin Ventura could end up being the fall guy.

“Robin Ventura is coming under fire in Chicago, and some White Sox people are starting to wonder whether a change could be coming, or maybe even warranted,” Heyman reported. “As one White Sox-connected person put it, things are ‘not great’ regarding Ventura’s stats.”

Led by a strong pitching staff, the White Sox sprinted out to a 23-10, but currently sit at 33-33 and in fourth-place in the American League Central. They are only 2.5 games behind the first-place Cleveland Indians and Kansas City Royals, but they do not currently look like a post-season team.

Ventura has always been looked at as a players manager who has great relationships with the guys on his team. However, his in-game management has come under fire many different times.

It is probably unfair to blame Ventura for the White Sox’ struggles, but getting rid of him for the rest of the season could provide a spark for the team. After acquiring James Shields in a trade and calling up top prospect Tim Anderson, the White Sox clearly believe they can contend this season.

Also, as Heyman mentions, White Sox bench coach Rick Renteria would be a natural and strong replacement for Ventura for the rest of the season should the White Sox decide to part ways.
