Fact: bow ties don’t look good on everybody. In fact, they don’t look good on most people in our society – unless you’re Bruce Bowen. That didn’t stop Ben McLemore from putting one on in 2013 and making it work with ease.

The former Jayhawk looked dapper in black, proving once again that sometimes simplicity is all you need. That is, until he opened up his jacket, revealing the not-so-simple interior. McLemore had his number 23 Kansas jersey sewn into his blazer, which is probably the first and only time anyone has shown such loyalty toward their alma mater during the draft.

Despite the inherent corniness of the idea, it actually turned out to be a pretty cool thing to see. It was different, and rather risky considering that making those kinds of alterations has a higher chance of being an Olowakandi-level bust. We could’ve been looking back on this moment as one of the worst “do you” fashion statements in NBA Draft history.

For McLemore’s sake, it all worked out, and he made it out of the Barclay’s Center scot-free. One can only hope that he’s got that coat on display somewhere at his place, waiting idly for the next ideal moment to bust it out again.
