Lionel Messi continues to prove why he is the best player in the world with an amazing pass for an assist in the Copa America quarterfinals.

Lionel Messi is starting his first game of the Copa America in today’s quarterfinal matchup against Venezuela.

Messi appeared sparingly in the group stage, but still managed to score a hat-trick in a game against Panama.

Fans were surely excited after seeing he would start today, and he raised the excitement level early on with an amazing play.

There are no words for a play like that. One just has to sit back, smile and realize that Messi is a special talent.

His claim to being the best player in the world is sometimes challenged by Cristiano Ronaldo, but the Portugal star is having a different start in his major tournament.

Portugal played to another draw Saturday afternoon, this time against Austria. Ronaldo had a chance to put the game away late, but blew the opportunity in front of a shocked crowd.

If one wants to be known as the greatest, an easy opportunity such as that penalty kick must be completed. Missing the kick will lead to commentary on Ronaldo’s skill at his age, along with the creation of some great memes.

Messi is staking his claim for the title while leading Argentina in the Copa America. A win over Venezuela would result in a semifinal match against the United States in a game that could change the landscape of soccer here in the U.S.

But if Messi continues to play at such a high rate in a short amount of time on the field, other teams stand no chance to stop him and his Argentina squad.
