Looks like the only Vardy Party happening a the Emirates next season will take place in the visiting supporters’ section.

Getting help up front for Arsenal to either spell or supplant Olivier Giroud has turned into an annual item on the wish list for the club’s fans. This summer seemed to be different, since the Gunners were reportedly in on the trendiest striker around, Leicester City talisman Jamie Vardy.

Only it doesn’t appear Vardy will be joining Arsene Wenger’s side after all. Wenger has admitted as much on Chinese TV, saying that he believes Vardy will stay with Leicester City.

As SI explains, money isn’t the issue. While his current team has offered $140,000 a week to Vardy to spearhead a defense of its ridiculously improbable Premier League title, Arsenal has reportedly offered $170,000 a week. Those figures are close enough that salary isn’t likely to be the primary factor.

One wonders, then, if Vardy agrees with the loudest voices in the court of public opinion, which say that Leicester City has a system tailor made for his talents, while he would be forced to adapt to a different style of play at Arsenal. That’s hard to argue, but considering the instant impact Vardy made when inserted into Englan’d second match at Euro 2016, a case could be made that he would find a way to assert himself anywhere if he remains in anything close to approximating his 2015-16 form.

For Gunners fans, the flirtation with Vardy was fun while it lasted, but the return to wondering when the team will field more than a one-man strike force up top won’t be.
