Looking at some of the biggest surprises from what has been a thrilling Copa America Centenario so far.

Following months of buildup, the Copa America Centenario has lived up to the considerable hype and then some.

As a celebration of the 100th anniversary of the first Copa America, a special edition of the tournament has been held in the United States this month with some extra guests from CONCACAF. The result has been an exciting few weeks of soccer featuring upsets, free-flowing offense and some hotly contested knockout round games.

Favorites Argentina and Chile looked like the class of the tournament heading in and have impressed so far. The United States and Colombia will join them in the semifinals, which begin on Tuesday in Houston.

That group would have been a reasonable final four to pick prior to the Copa America, although the United States is on a bit of an upset run. However, the tournament has been full of surprises, including some unexpected individual performances and underdog teams advancing out of the group.

Perhaps the biggest shock has been the poor showings from a couple of traditional superpowers. While Brazil and Uruguay weren’t the top title favorites heading in, just about everyone expected them to at least reach the knockout stages.

With more sure to come, these surprises rank as the biggest of the Copa America Centenario so far.
