After losing in one of the best NBA Finals series in recent memory, the Golden State Warriors are expected to reload this summer and one name on their list is Dallas Mavericks star Dirk Nowitzki.

It’s going to be a long summer full of “what ifs” for the Golden State Warriors after their Game 7 loss to the Cleveland Cavaliers in this year’s NBA Finals.

One of those “what ifs” includes free agency and the questions surrounding who the defending NBA champions will target.

According to Tim Kawakami of the San Jose Mercury News, the Warriors are expected to pursue Dallas Mavericks superstar Dirk Nowitzki this summer.

"The Warriors are going to take a look at any interesting free agent or trade candidate who might help them get back to the parade route ASAP.Anybody good. Anybody worth discussing. Anybody who fits their locker room and system. They will have some money to spend, can create more space if they need to, and can offer a nice situation for a veteran aiming for one last title (and to be credited for returning the Warriors to the mountaintop). And Nowitzki–who won a title with Dallas in 2011 but hasn’t won a playoff series since–is somebody Warriors management has circled."

OK, trying to pry Kevin Durant away from the Oklahoma City Thunder is one thing, but Dirk Nowitzki? That seems like a maneuver that would even seem outlandish playing in Franchise Mode in the NBA 2K franchise.

Nowitzki has spent his entire 18-year NBA career with the Mavericks, helping Dallas win the franchise’s lone title in 2011.

Seeing Nowitzki in a different uniform would be a befuddling sight for basketball fans and a rather scary sight for those in the path of the Warriors next season.
