NBA Free Agency: 5 destinations for Dwight Howard
3. Boston Celtics
The Boston Celtics are in such a unique position for a franchise. Danny Ainge did a tremendous job of acquiring assets and building a roster that could compete in the Eastern Conference while remaining competitive.
The Celtics have already done a good enough job of acquiring talent, that they should be a playoff team for many years to come. With the future assets and flexibility, the Celtics really have a chance to strike it rich and they could choose to make their move now.
Should the Celtics choose to go all in on free agency, but not land a Kevin Durant or another top player, taking a next-tier player like Dwight Howard could be a wise move. They could slot him right in at center and he could anchor the paint for them.
They also have plenty of cap space and signing Howard wouldn’t prevent them at all from swinging trades and adding even more talent on the roster. They really set themselves up to do a lot with their roster and this is one of those moves that could pay off.
It’s not enough to win them the Eastern Conference, but it’s one of many pieces that can help get them to where they want to be.
