Dwyane Wade took to Instagram on the 10-year anniversary of his first NBA Championship, saying that the 2006 NBA Finals wasn’t rigged in Miami’s favor.

10 years ago on Monday, Dwyane Wade won his first NBA Championship as the star shooting guard for the Miami Heat. It was Wade’s third year in the league and his underdog team topped Dirk Nowitzki’s elite Western Conference Champion Dallas Mavericks in six games.

Though Dallas would later defeat the same Heat in the 2011 NBA Finals to secure the Mavericks’ first NBA Championship, some have continued to argue that the 2006 NBA Finals were rigged in Miami’s favor. Dallas went up two games to none before falling apart down the stretch.

Wade went to Instagram and laid down on lengthy rant about how there was no way that the 2006 NBA Finals were rigged to help his team win in a league-wide conspiracy to punish Nowitzki and the Mavericks.

The photo Wade shared illustrates how he was hacked many times that he attacked the basket. He calls out shooting guard Devin Harris because he’s “my guy”, but the photo does show Harris grabbing Wade’s shooting hand as he attacks the rim. Josh Howard has his hand on Wade’s right thigh and conceivably Nowitzki has his hand on Wade’s back on this possession.

Wade admits that the referees did call some soft fouls against Dallas in the best-of-seven series, saying “Did I get some calls that I could have played through. YES. But I was attacking every time I touch[ed] the ball.”

The Mavericks rebounded five years later to win Dallas its first NBA Championship. While the Mavericks were good enough to win the 2006 NBA Finals, Wade was playing at another level in that series.

While he was a huge part behind Miami’s back-to-back championships in 2012 and 2013, his play in the 2006 NBA Finals essentially assured his spot in the Basketball Hall of Fame five years before LeBron James and Chris Bosh arrived in South Beach.
