3. Rose has something to prove in contract year

Rose was once the crown jewel of Chicago. A local kid from Simeon High School, he rose to prominence in high school, and then would go on to be the first overall selection by his hometown Chicago Bulls. Within three years of being drafted, Rose would become the first Chicago Bulls player to win an MVP award, and filled the United Center with the kind of buzz Michael Jordan used to.

In a way, that all ended in the final minutes of the first game of the 2012 NBA Playoffs when Rose tore up his knee with the Bulls leading the 76ers by 12 with less than 90 seconds remaining in the game.

Since then, Rose has battled injuries and criticism and has worked hard to get back on the court.

In the final year of the monster contract he received after being named NBA MVP, Rose is out to prove he still has a lot left in the tank, and the Knicks will be the benefiting party. He has slowly worked his way back to taking on a good workload, and he is playing for a contract this year.

If he can put together a solid season, the Knicks will have a huge decision on their hands. He is obviously not a $20 million dollar a year player anymore, but he could be a guy who can man the point for the Knicks for the next five years.

There should be a fire in his eyes this year, as the kid from Chicago tries to prove once again that he is a top player in the league.
