A Sixers fan was the winner of the 2016 NBA Draft as he proclaimed Sam Hinkie their savior

If you bring up the name Sam Hinkie in the circles around the Philadelphia 76ers, you are most definitely going to be getting a mixed reaction from fans and everyone around the team. However, if you ask one Sixers fan that was at the 2016 NBA Draft about Hinkie, he’s going to deliver a glowing review—one that you might even say deifies the former Sixers general manager.

You might say that because the sign basically calls Sam Hinkie Jesus.

Here’s a look at the sign this 76ers fan brought to the 2016 NBA Draft. Behold in all its glory as it proudly and boldly proclaims “Hinkie died for your sins:”

On a night in the 2016 NBA Draft when the Oklahoma City Thunder acquired Victor Oladipo and Domantas Sabonis, in which Thon Maker went No. 10, and in which the Sixers drafted Ben Simmons, this fan and his Sam Hinkie sign might be the winner of the night and the most memorable part of the night.

While it might be a bit bold of a statement, that doesn’t make it any less hilarious in its hyperbole—but that hyperbole does actually bring up an interesting point. I mean, these draft picks did come from Hinkie and they are in this talent-laden position because of Hinkie. But now he no longer has a job and the Sixers are reaping the benefits.

When you put it that way, sign guy at the NBA Draft might have a point—even if Hinkie isn’t actually Jesus.
