Welcome to the Saturday Main edition of Picks & Pivots, a daily fantasy baseball column focused on providing analysis and insights into the top FanDuel MLB lineups. The purpose of this column is to first identify key building blocks that can be used for any roster construction and then identify pivot points to help differentiate your lineup in hopes of a big payday!

Saturday’s MLB action is split evenly into two tidy FanDuel slates with 8 games kicking off in the afternoon slate at 1:05PM EST and an additional 8 games in the main slate at 7:05PM EST.
I will continue to track winning Tournament lineups and compare trends over 5 day periods to help us understand what it takes to remain profitable. I HIGHLY recommend each of you do this each morning to look back on the previous night and understand how the winning lineups are constructed in the games you participate in.
The view below tracks GPP entries over various time periods, breaking out key metrics to understand the trends and compositions of GPP winning rosters:
Time Period | Score | Pitcher Salary | Pitcher % | Hitter % | Hitter $/Player | Value |
Season | 254.8 | $ 8,651 | 25% | 75% | $ 3,294 | 7.28 |
5 Day | 252.1 | $ 9,143 | 26% | 74% | $ 3,232 | 7.20 |
Prev Day | 206.1 | $ 8,000 | 23% | 77% | $ 3,375 | 5.89 |
Now on to the picks…For more DFS Strategy insights, check out my latest article to help take your game to the next level! I highly recommend gamers track their game performance across the various types of games they play – GPP’s, Cash, Multipliers etc – as this simple exercise will help teach you more about profitable roster construction than you can imagine.
Next: Who are the top pitching options on Saturday's Main Slate?
The afternoon slate may have been absent of any true aces but the evening slate sets up with a variety of top end arms to build our lineups around!
Madison Bumgarner ($12,000) at home versus Philadelphia: Whenever we get an abbreviated slate like we have Saturday evening with only 8 games, I usually look to lock in the elite starting pitcher and build from there. Bumgarner is a massive favorite (-300) and has historically dominated at home, pitching to a 2.77 ERA in his career at home and holding opposing hitters to a .224 average.
Although there are other solid options on the hill Saturday, no pitcher has the upside or the match-up of Bumgarner and he makes for a must play in cash games and frankly will anchor every format I play Saturday night.
Kenta Maeda ($8,600) at Pittsburgh: One potential pivot off Bumgarner on Saturday would be to roll with the Dodgers right hander in Pittsburgh who has been on quite the roll recently.
Maeda has put up 4 straight 40 point performances and 4.8x value at this price point. With a 28% discount in price off Bumgarner, it will allow gamers to stack a higher priced lineup while building a relatively safe floor as a minor road favorite on Saturday.
Next: Top Hitting Stacks on Saturday Evening
With the goal of spending up for Madison Bumgarner on Saturday night, there are a few spots with some high upside value bats that will allow us to not only stack but do so within the salary cap!
Texas Rangers and Boston Red Sox in Arlington: The highest projected scoring game on the night came be found in Texas and outside of a few bats, many of these hitters sit at very reasonable price points that allow us to fit a stack in with MadBum.
Xander Bogaerts ($3,900) is averaging 15.9 points per game over the last two weeks and Jackie Bradley Jr. ($3,600) averaging 12 points per game make for a great mini stack against RHP AJ Griffin.
On the Rangers side of the ball, they have a more challenging match-up against Steven Wright, but the left-handed bats in the lineup sit at very reasonable price points which make a stack very easy to fit in with Bumgarner.
Nomar Mazara ($2,800) and Rougned Odor ($3,400) are two of the top bats to targets, as Odor specifically has put up over 12 points per game in the last two weeks.
Prince Fielder ($2,400) is still amazingly cheap for the upside he possesses and Robinson Chirinos ($2,200) would make a great punt at catcher who has two 28+ point games in his last 6 games.
