More than anything, the New Orleans Pelicans need healthy players next season. They found a perfect one in Buddy Hield.

Last season was a frustrating disappointment for the New Orleans Pelicans. Hopes were high last fall as Alvin Gentry was installed as the new head coach, just after helping the Golden State Warriors win a title as an assistant coach. Gentry promised a more effective defensive structure and an up-tempo offense that played to the strengths of Anthony Davis.

Instead of a fight for the playoffs, the Pelicans crumbled under the weight of numerous injuries. David regressed and Gentry’s system never really had a chance to take hold as he worked with a piecemeal rotation.

Holding the No. 6 pick in the NBA Draft, it was essential that the Pelicans find a talented player who could contribute right away (helping to keep Davis happy) and one how could help reinvigorate the franchise. Buddy Hield was available when the Pelicans were put on the clock and the wisely snapped him up.

One of the best players in college basketball last season, an electric shooter and scorer, Hield is a wonderful fit for New Orleans. Ready to step in and contribute next season, he should make the Pelicans a better team and certainly more fun to watch. Here are few reasons he’s such a great fit.
