Milwaukee Bucks

Picks: No. 10 Thon Maker, No. 36 Malcolm Brogdon

Malcolm Brogdon might’ve been my favorite second round prospect heading into the 2016 NBA Draft. I absolutely love the way that the young man leads on the floor and the fact that he just knows how to get the job done on both ends of the floor. So for a Bucks team that loves their three-and-D type of players on the wing, seeing them add Brogdon just seemed like a dream come true for Milwaukee.

Of course, Brogdon going in the second round was more than likely just barely enough to wake the Bucks from a nightmare in the first round. That nightmare, of course, comes from the fact that the Bucks did the absolutely unthinkable in the lottery as they took the riskiest risk of all of the risks in the world as they took Thon Maker with the No. 10 overall pick in the 2016 draft.

Even well after the fact, this is still hard to wrap your head around. The most devout believers in Thon Maker as a prospect projected the Sudanese big man to go near the end of the first round at best and likely in the second round. So to see him vault all the way up to No. 10 is absurd. Why wouldn’t they trade back to make such a pick if they were so set on it? Why would they make this pick in the first place when they aren’t exactly a roster set up to succeed right now? It was just curious to say the least and wholly and unwaveringly shocking.

Final Grade: “Wow…”
