NBA Draft 2016: Grades for every team
Cleveland Cavaliers
Picks: No. 54 Kay Felder
The Cleveland Cavaliers could ultimately have just looked at the 2016 NBA Draft where they didn’t own a single pick and just held up the Larry O’Brien Trophy as the ultimate sign of apathy regarding the process. Instead, though, the Cavaliers chose to wait and see what value was waiting at the end of the second round near the conclusion of the night and then bought their way into the draft.
Cleveland paid $2.4 million to the Hawks to purchase the No. 54 overall pick from Atlanta. With that selection, the Cavs elected to take the diminutive but lightning-quick and highly productive Kay Felder out of Oakland.
If you watched Felder play throughout his college career, you have to love just seeing him make it into the NBA. This young man is ridiculously quick on both ends of the floor, but also has a great feel for the game on offense as well as both a facilitator and scorer. He could legitimately be a player that could provide a spark for Cleveland off the bench behind Kyrie Irving and you have to like their move to buy in and get such a good value where they bought in at.
Final Grade: B
Note: A previous version of this post did not include the Cavaliers and the No. 54 pick that they purchased from the Atlanta Hawks.
