Charlotte Hornets – Playing for Michael Jordan

There are legitimate basketball reasons that Kevin Durant might want to head to Charlotte. Kemba Walker is a very nice point guard, Nic Batum (if he returns) would be a perfect complement on the wing and the Hornets have a nice stable of frontcourt players that could serve quality roles around Durant’s excellence. It would be easier to make basketball-related arguments for Durant elsewhere, though, but no other franchise has Michael Jordan live and in the flesh.

Jordan is the owner of the Charlotte Hornets and while ownership does not always influence player movement in the NBA, he brings a great deal of power. Durant is a Nike athlete when it comes to endorsements, putting Jordan in his corner already, and it is also an emerging market on the east coast. Beyond that, Jordan remains one of the most popular people on the planet and, by proxy, one of the most visible and well-known parts of the NBA as a whole.

We have no idea what the relationship is between Kevin Durant and Michael Jordan, but when looking for a path for the Hornets to land the superstar forward, it makes the most sense and I am not sure it is particularly close.
